Qatar: The FIFA World Cup 2022 is starting from November 20 in Qatar and will continue till December 18, 2022 with 32 teams participating. For the first time, the World Cup was played in November-December, while until now, the World Cup was held in June-July. The first match of FIFA World Cup 2022 will be played at Al Bayt Stadium with a capacity of 60,000 spectators. Each stadium in Qatar, training facility and fan zone is equipped with solar-powered cooling technology to keep moderate temperature. All stadiums in Qatar where the matches are being played are eco-friendly and their temperature will be controllable. Qatar is home for around three million people, so the legacy of the tournament has to be managed carefully. The FIFA World Cup 2022 will start at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor city of Qatar.

The 64 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2022 tournament will be organized in 8 football stadiums in Qatar – Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, Lusail Stadium, Stadium 974, Education City Stadium and Al Janoub Stadium. The final match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be played in Lusail on 18 December 2022.

Al Bayt Stadium

The opening match and opening ceremony will take place at the Al Bayt Stadium. It is the 2nd largest stadium of the Qatar. It was built like a tent used by nomadic peoples in the Gulf region. The stadium was opened on 30 November 2021 for the FIFA Arab Cup after 7 years of construction. It will host 9 matches in the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup. These include three knock out matches. Its audience capacity is around sixty thousand.

Lusail Stadium

The Lusail Stadium in Doha will be the center of attraction for the FIFA 2022 Qatar World Cup as this will be the biggest stadium in the World Cup. Special cooling systems have been installed here to deal with the heat, as it will keep the temperature under control inside the stadium. This is where the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be played. Its construction started in 2017 and completed in 2021. Its audience capacity is around eighty thousand.

Stadium 974 is named after the number of shipping containers used in the stadium’s construction and the Qatar’s international dialling code.
