Exhibition of traditional stone sculptures of Nepal

 Nepal: Dalai-La Art Space in Thamel is hosting an exhibition by Khokana-based sculptor Chandra Shyam Dangol. Titled ‘Eternity’, the exhibition features 14 traditional stone sculptures of various Hindu and Buddhist deities and other elements from the two religions.

One of the exhibition's highlights is the exquisite stone carving of the Bauddha Stupa. The exhibition also has on display several in-progress sculptures, which give visitors an idea of the stone sculpture-making process.

A statement from Dalai-La Art Space, located in Dalai-La Boutique Hotel in Thamel, read, “Dangol’s immaculate work on stone acts as a frame through which we learn, embrace and value the rich Newari culture.”

“Stone sculpture has always played a significant role in Nepal’s Hinduism and Buddhism, but unfortunately, not many people know about the art form,” says Chandra Shyam Dangol, who has been making stone sculptures for the last 28 years. “I hope the exhibition helps draw people’s attention to this ancient art form.”
