Nepal: The documentary 'Gods
Buffalo' on buffaloes washed away by the floods in Melamchi has been selected
for the Animal Fabula Film Festival. The documentary won the Best Documentary
in 'Kimf' and the 'Best Isimod Mountain Film'.
The
14-minute long documentary was also selected at the Nepal International Film
Festival (NIFF). 'Just a few days ago, I applied for this festival. I am very
happy that the famous Animal Festival has also chosen my documentary, 'said
director Bishnu Kalpit. Her documentary will be screened at the festival from
November 25 to 27.
Bishnu
had taken this documentary when he went to Melamchi for reporting. When we
reached Melamchi, the locals stopped our press vehicle. When I understood, I
saw the rescuer asking for one lakh for the buffalo that was washed away in the
flood. Homan Singh Shiva Bhakti, the owner of the same buffalo, was crying
because he could not pay. Seeing that, I started shooting the same video. At
that time, I did not even think of making a documentary. If I had thought of
making a documentary, I would have shot it in a different way, 'says Kalpit.' Bhimsen
Majhi was asking for one lakh.
Homan
Singh did not have much money. Another brother was trying to take the buffalo
himself. I saw the twist in the story and shot the video. '
Bishnu
said that he made a documentary on the video after seeing the loss of human
consciousness even during the disaster. Earlier, he had won the award in 2016 for
his 'Sawari'.
Bishnu
is known in the media as a camera person. He says that he has been filming for
others for a long time but since he did not understand his contribution, he
thinks that he should tell the story that he likes. 'I have arranged
documentaries for many directors. I used to draw, I used to edit. But when he
received the award, he did not even take the name. After enduring that kind of
discrimination, I started making documentaries, 'he said.
