Actor and singer Jayananda Lama passes away at 65

 Nepal: Popular veteran actor and singer Jayananda Lama has died. Lama, who had returned from a meeting in Boudha, was found dead in front of his house in Kaushaltar, Bhaktapur at 7 am this morning.



According to Online Khabar, an online news platform, Lama’s death is suspected to have been caused by falling from his car while trying to get off of the vehicle. But an investigation headed by Metropolitan Police, Bhaktapur is still underway.

Born in Bahrabise, Sindhupalchowk, Lama made his debut as an actor in 1973 with the movie, ‘Mann ko Bandh.’ Since then, he had acted in more than a hundred movies. In recent times, he was recognised for his roles in movies like ‘Chakka Panja 2’, ‘Maya Pirim’, and ‘Sanglo’. He was also nominated in the Kamana Film Award 2018 for the ‘Best Actor in a Comic Role’ category.

Of late, Lama had become popular for his comic roles.

Before starting his acting career, Lama stepped into the entertainment industry by singing folk songs. Some of the many songs he was known for are ‘Herdama Ramro,’ ‘Unbho ta Sailung,’ ‘Kalakate Kainyo,’ ‘Mula ko Chana’, ‘Chuin Chuin Chuinkane Joota’.
