Government of Nepal urges India to stop unilateral road construction in Kalapani area

Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has requested to stop unilateral road construction in Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura areas.


Spokesperson of the government Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the government of Nepal is adamant on the fact that Lipulek, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani areas east of Mahakali are an integral part of Nepal and urged India to stop unilateral road construction in the area.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry on Sunday, Spokesperson Karki said, "The Government of Nepal is firm and clear on the fact that Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani east of the Mahakali River are an integral part of Nepal."

Releasing the government's views on road construction in Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura areas, he said, “The Government of Nepal has been urging the Government of India to stop any kind of unilateral road construction / expansion going through Nepali territory. 

The Government of Nepal has been committed to resolving the border issue between the two countries through diplomatic means on the basis of historical treaties, agreements, facts, maps and evidence in the spirit of close and friendly relations between Nepal and India.

Minister Karki said that the government would take forward the process through diplomatic channels to resolve the border issue considering the historical relations between Nepal and India.

A few days ago, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi had given a statement that the road construction work in the Lipulek area was progressing rapidly. The spokesperson of the government has given the information as the opinion of the government of Nepal has been demanded in Modi's statement.
